I love plaid, and I love flannel. Although I’m by no means biased against any particular multi-color patterns, my absolute favorite is and will always be navy plaid. It’s classic, it’s clean, and it’s beautifully versatile. When I received an invitation to attend The Sharing Center’s Sweet Charity benefit this lovely Sunday afternoon, I sorted through my closet and simply couldn’t decide against donning my new J. Crew classic factory shirt. Typically, flannel washed shirts aren’t considered dressy garments, but paired with a classic lace black skirt and heels, it can create the perfect classic fall ensemble.

I literally couldn’t be more obsessed with my new red Lauren Ralph Lauren Newbury Double Zip Satchel. It’s the perfect embellishment to dress up any day look.

As for the event itself, I don’t care what the subject material is, any Sunday Funday spent with my incredibly busy MD of a mama is a ball. She agreed to be my date to Sweet Charity: An Afternoon of Wine, Fashion, and Dessert to benefit The Sharing Center, and we had a grand ole champagne-filled time.

Sweet Charity was held at the Hilton Orlando-Altamonte Springs and benefited The Sharing Center, which gave out over 35,000 bags of food, helped over 500 families with shelter and utility costs, provided 1,500 children with new shoes, assisted over 2,300 patients with costs of prescriptions and to obtain lab tests, surgeries, and other medical aid, and welcomed over 900 homeless guests to their Oasis daytime service center, where they could get showers, haircuts, laundry, computer access, and connections to other resources to regain independence– all within the last year.

The afternoon consisted of a plethora of champagne, wine, and dessert from the best of the best bakeries in Greater Central Florida, as well as a fashion show, a handful of raffles, and a luxurious silent auction.

If the dessert wasn’t enough to keep us all happy and hyper, the champagne and wine were also a-flowing. I just feel bad for the emcee who was trying to corral a handful of tipsy chatty Kathy’s.

At the end of the day, our mother-daughter play date beat any Sunday Funday brunch I’ve ever inhaled…and at the benefit of a truly remarkable organization. Be sure to check out The Sharing Center and see if there are any volunteer opportunities near you. Not only will you meet an array of model citizens, but you’re given a direct platform to benefit those experiencing misfortune in your own neighborhoods.

How were your weekends?

♥ Stephanie
