Southern ladies are innate party hostesses. We live to entertain, serve, and engage with the utmost level of warm southern hospitality. Sometimes, however, we’re called to host without notice, and adapting is part of our culture. I returned late Sunday afternoon from Savannah {post to come} to a house filled with my roommate’s guests. We — or me specifically— are known for creating signature seasonal cocktails, so I had to pull something together quickly with no idea of the contents inside my fridge and while still in my travel clothes.

Luckily, I saw Canada Dry, my all-time favorite ginger ale, released a delicious-looking new spring flavor while on my latest trip to Walmart, so I had two liters of Canada Dry Blackberry Ginger Ale® and the Original “Green Bottle” Canada Dry Ginger Ale® stocked in my pantry. Score one for the hoarder. I’m also a huge wine drinker, so I pulled a bottle of Pinot Grigio from our wine cabinet and decided to attempt a bubbly Mixed Berry Wine Spritzer for our guests.

I found these adorable glass cups in Savannah and couldn’t resist immediately pulling them out of my shopping bag for party use. My roommate also made a trip to the local farmer’s market earlier in the weekend, so we had a plethora of fresh berries available for flavor and garnish. As far as the decor and music, I pulled some fresh flowers {from a sweetheart} out of my room, placed them on the living room table, and turned on my “Spring Playtime” playlist on Spotify. I’d say for a 15 minute preparation time, the atmosphere and the sustenance weren’t all that shabby! Luckily, I’ve got a slew of video games, so Dance Dance Revolution, Sing Star, and an entire collection of Nintendo 64 games kept the guys– most girls, too, actually– entertained.

Although I prepared classic cocktails, as well, my favorite was the Mixed Berry Wine Spritzer. It’s literally the perfect drink for springtime, if I do say so myself. Fill your glass up halfway with any light white wine, like a Pinot Grigio, and fill the rest up with Canada Dry Blackberry Ginger Ale®. Depending on the temperature of your beverages, you may want to add ice to your cocktails, like me. Toss in a handful of mixed berries, and you’ll be in awe of how absolutely delicious and refreshing your last-minute drink tastes.
