We’ve all heard the old adage, “The eyes are the window to your soul.” If you (like me) believe that to be true, it’s important that we protect our eyes at all costs, right? Although a widely-adopted misconception is that 20/20 vision means regular eye exams aren’t necessary, your doctor can can detect early signs of systemic health issues, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, just from performing an annual comprehensive eye exam. Eye problems can and should be detected at their early stages when they’re most treatable, and like all other muscles, eyes deserve regular care and monitoring to maintain maximum performance. For this very reason, I’ve teamed up with Think About Your Eyes, a national public awareness campaign that promotes the benefits of eye health, to encourage people of all ages to get annual comprehensive eye exams this year– and every year moving forward!

In order to display the gravity of their message, Think About Your Eyes surveyed members of national fitness center chain Life Time Fitness and found that many gym-goers neglect their eye health despite being very conscious of their body health and fitness (see below for stats). I’ll admit, I’ve been (and not been) an avid gym goer with a dedicated focus on living a health lifestyle, and eye health usually falls in the “I’ll get to it when I get to it” category. This infographic proves many people prioritize similarly, and it’s so important to stress the importance of eye care as a large contributing factor of our overall well being. After all, can you image your life without vision? I can’t, so I’m visiting my doctor every year for ac comprehensive eye exam.

Thank you for the information about how cute traveling reading glasses can be. I like how you said you should get an annual eye exam to detect early signs of diabetes and high blood pressure. It’s really nice to be able to find such cute options and still help your vision.
